I definitely struggled this week trying to finish this assignment. I'm fairly happy with the game-res model and high-res sculpt, but I might revisit this project in the future to touch them up and re-texture the model. I'm also still trying to figure out the best way to light my models, and am still not comfortable with rendering in Unreal Engine.

Common Art - VR Assignment Sprint 1
This was my first sprint with my new team, so I spent some time getting myself up to speed and reviewing the existing materials the team made last semester (and watching gameplay to learn more about the experience we are creating). I found references, and am currently working on updating the model for Samus's (the player's) arm cannon and creating a model for other hand, and will be sculpting and texturing these next. The only issue I've been having is that the expected hours on this project aren't enough to do much, when it comes to modeling, so I've been struggling to find time to set aside for this class.

Small Hard Surface Model - Week 2 - Game-Res and Baking
This week, I made the game-res model for my knife - I started from the low-res model I had, and updated some parts of the topology, doing Booleans in Maya and making adjustments, trying to be as efficient with poly count as possible. I also redid the high-res sculpt after up-resing the game res mesh to make sure my bake would be as accurate as possible. There was a small issue with one of the screws that I still need to fix up, but otherwise there were no issues!
Rules:
-7-12k poly range (tris)
-one material, 4096 resolution
-check similar knives on ArtStation for display ideas (find a couple of good references)

Small Hard Surface Model - Week 1 - Proxy and High-Res
This project was both easier and harder than I thought it would be...I had a good time making the original model, but trying to get the Booleans to do exactly what I wanted and working in ZBrush was a bit difficult. I'm still not as familiar with the program as I'd like to be, but with each project I learn a lot of new techniques, so hopefully in a few more months I'll be comfortable with it!
